I'm going to be the first to say this, but-I hate this ad. No, really. In fact, I despise it. Sure, it sends out a good message, but it's also the ultimate hypocrisy. The ad teaches us that "YOU are more beautiful than you think!", but really in the end, Dove just wants to sell their beauty products.
I'm gonna play Devil's advocate here. The artist probably drew the first drawing (people describing themselves) accurately, according to descriptions, etc. But for the second drawing (other people describing the person they talked to)... he *could have* deliberately drawn them to be more 'beautiful' on purpose. Think about it, he could not have possibly asked the person everything about another person's features, like how high the person's nose bridge was, the size of their eyes, the length of their face, their lips (especially the cupid's bow & tip), etc. The artist most likely had to improvise a little (since no one can remember that much about another person), which meant that he *might have* deliberately drawn the second drawing prettier/slimmer/etc.
With that said, the meaning behind this video *is* inarguably good. We could all do with a little more of confidence and self-love. So yeah, LOVE YOURSELF, YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL, YOU'RE ALL FULL OF RAINBOWS AND SUNSHINE AND PIXIEDUST. Bye. :D
My blog today was indirectly inspired by this amazing commercial and campaign by #Dove #RealBeauty. It makes me cry every time I see it. Cheers to those who use the media to strengthen and empower!
This is so cool at first i was like what is my librarian showing me but now i realized this is horrible when u think of yourself and now i realize that you should NEVER be self critic.
"A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit." - Proverbs 15:13 "A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones." - Proverbs 15:30 "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." - Psalm 139:14
I think it's horseshit that Dove is facing a lot of blowback from this campaign. Probably the first time I ever became emotional during a commercial. Pure, raw human emotion. Good for them!
I don't like how Dove is manipulating its target audience by tapping into their emotions. I don't believe they're being sincere at all. DOVE is owned by Unilever which also makes the number one fairness cream in India and the Middle East. It's all about marketing. They know how to drive sales and that's where the money is at.
according to women. men apparently don't go through the same thing. hmm...

Amazing advert from ‘Dove’ again not focusing on the product but
ReplyDeletecommunicating deep connection and emotional understanding of their target
audience
Not scientific. But a good message.
ReplyDeleteI love this so much
ReplyDeleteNext up, ball sketches.
ReplyDeleteFinally, something that isn't men's fault.

I hadn't seen the Sketches video. What a statement on how we see ourselves

Just women? Cool. I'm not saying the ad's bad, but that sort of problem's
ReplyDeletenot limited to females.

I'm a lady and all, and I appreciate the whole message. But I really
ReplyDeletewould've liked to see some guys in this ad too.
